A big win for KKR to kick start their IPL10 campaign. But one can say it was expected when we had a sight at the Playing 11 of both teams, isn’t it?

GL just stacked up their batting lineup with 4 overseas batters also all of them were genuine openers. A little-jaded decision one would say. Adding to it at this point of time they are without service of Jaddu& Bravo made this decision even more bizarre. On any day it is known that an attack of Praveen Kumar, Kulkarni, Gony will never make even a decent domestic T20 pace bowling unit. To add salt to wound spin unit with jakati&Kushik made their unit sound like a 1st division class attack. The omission of Faulkner from the Playing XI today the first nail in GL’s coffin.

A bad toss to lose for GL. But having put into bat they didn’t make use of the conditions to the most. A flat track with such muscular batting lineup 200 was minimum. To compensate the lean bowling unit, anything less than 225 was KKR’s game.

Though they got a decent start from Roy& McCullum. Both didn’t make a big inning, which was needed from one of them. But with the likes of Finch, Raina, DK&Smith still there was plenty of batting left in them. Raina was fortunate to survive with a dropped catch by Kuldeep during his early part of the innings. Though he stitched a long inning with the likes of DK, Raina never really took off. His innings was more of a struggle: mistimed shots, flying edges & too many lofted hits (surprisingly didn’t carry). Certainly wasn’t on off Raina’s best innings by a mile. One might say this innings by Raina on a flat track actually killed GL’s momentum during the second half of their 20 overs. DK still made up for it with few lusty blows. But they couldn’t even put 200 on board. No credit is taken away from KKR & GG. When his pacemen were going for runs he introduced his premier spinners in his disposal in the likes of Chawla&Kuldeep. They made the difference between the two teams. (To mention a fact: On all three games of IPL10, the team which had the wicket taking or quality wrist spin bowlers have prevailed. They made a big difference.)

Gl lost

Nothing much to say of second innings, it was just high-class batting from Chris Lynn with his Skipper just thumped a hapless GL bowling attack. To accompany that Raina as a captain made too many wrong bowling changes, can’t say much about field setting when Lynn was hitting every ball out of the ground. After helpless effort from their three Indian pace bowlers, Kaushik bowled a minimum of 10 half-trackers in his 2 overs which just took GL victory out of sight. The big surprise of the night was when GL’s entire bowling unit looked out of sorts their skipper Raina didn’t even try to rotate his arm for a couple of overs. A master stroke move probably to give KKR a better run rate victory.

At the end of the day, the better team on paper and on the field won the game with ease. A perfect night for KKR as a unit. On the flip side plenty to ponder & may be a long night for GL after a shambolic display in front of their home crowd.
